As organizations strive to achieve net zero, one company has an innovative solution that builds real engagement, aligns staff to corporate sustainability goals, and leads to meaningful carbon reduction — all the while having fun doing it.

Invert’s one-of-a-kind Climate Action Platform is turning heads for its ease of use, gamification, and results driven analytics.

“Many organizations are good at coming up with sustainability goals and developing action plans, but they often fail at execution, because they can’t engage their employees,” says Rade Kovacevic, Invert’s Co-CEO. “It’s difficult for an organization to roll out programs to a workforce of hundreds or thousands, especially when employees aren’t aware or invested in them. Our platform helps organizations achieve better sustainability outcomes, by bridging the gap in communication and engaging workers to be part of solutions.”

Kovacevic adds that a digital platform, supported with AI technology, is the way to create sustained engagement. Many organizations use a traditional approach to engagement, which often includes email or town halls. They share lengthy (and dry) sustainability reports and plans with their employees. But workers, especially millennials and Gen Z who have grown up with social media, want to be engaged in a more interactive way.

We asked Ru Wadasinghe, Invert’s Head of Product and Software Development to share how their Climate Action Platform, which is best suited for enterprise-level companies with 500+ employees, is revolutionizing how businesses achieve their sustainability goals and addresses the impact of climate change.

Why is your solution needed?

A recent survey by Deloitte concluded that 75 per cent of company executives say they’ve increased their investment in sustainability, but over half of Millennial and Gen Z workers believe their organizations are investing less. And not encouraging, only 16 per cent of those workers feel they can influence change. Companies aren’t doing a good job communicating sustainability goals and actions, and workers don’t feel they are empowered to make change. We know that a fun and compelling experience will engage workers to be part of the solution.

How does the Climate Action Platform work?

On the web or through a mobile app, employees interact with customizable climate action cards, reflecting general sustainability awareness and an organization’s own sustainability goals. These cards include engaging bite-sized learning and quizzes. We can make goals meaningful across functions, so multiple departments can work on the same goal. When the cards are completed, staff earn points, with a leaderboard enhancing the gamification experience. Our AI Action Advisor guides employees through a personalized climate action journey. An organization’s sustainability program can be loaded into the system, then our AI Action Advisor goes to work. When employees interact with the platform and ask questions, responses reflect and reinforce their company’s program. Dashboards with company-wide views invites leaders to assess employee engagement and knowledge levels.

What tips do you have for organizations to achieve their climate action goals?

There are four key things. Change management needs to be part of their program because people need to adopt new processes. Organizations need to engage their staff in a fun and meaningful way, and they need to understand what the next generation of workers values and how they learn. And finally, given the complex challenges to achieving sustainability goals, cross-functional collaboration is critical.
