Canada’s largest space company, MDA, is looking to hire hundreds of engineers over the next few years to support several exciting, innovative space projects running out of its headquarters in Brampton, ON, and across the country.

Skilled, ambitious engineers seeking exciting career opportunities and innovative projects to work on need look no further than MDA. An international space mission partner and a robotics, satellite systems, and geointelligence pioneer with a 50-year story of firsts on and above the Earth, MDA has over 2,000 employees across Canada, the U.S., and the U.K. The company is leading the charge toward viable Moon colonies, enhanced Earth observation, communication in a hyper-connected world, and more.

Bringing innovative new technologies and operational concepts to life

MDA’s recent projects give engineers exciting opportunities to stretch their skills, and several of the projects take place right here in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)’s Brampton, ON.

In the Robotics and Space Operations arena, MDA is hard at work developing the Canadarm3, an iconic, next-generation artificial intelligence(AI)-enabled robotic system designed for the Lunar Gateway — a NASA-led Moon-orbiting space station — in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency. The project is contributing world-leading Canadian technology and operational expertise to this international space exploration endeavour — a once-in-a-lifetime prospect for up-and-coming engineers.

The most advanced space robotics system ever built, Canadarm3 will include a full robotics system, comprised of a large robotic arm, a small robotic arm, specialized tools for performing maintenance and science tasks, robotic interfaces, ground control systems, and AI-based control and mission planning software.

In other areas of MDA’s business, the company is seeing a similar need to bring on many new employees to support technology development for new projects.

In the geointelligence business area, MDA recently announced that it has initiated the development of a next-generation Earth observation satellite mission to provide continuity and enhancements to its world-leading RADARSAT-2 satellite. This innovative mission, which will be developed in Richmond, BC, and Montreal, QC, will serve to extend MDA’s market-leading geospatial data, products, and analytics services business well into the future.

MDA’s Satellite Systems group, based out of Montreal, QC, is also looking to onboard new staff to support recent project wins, including the development of one of the critical technology subsystems on Telesat Lightspeed, an advanced low Earth orbit satellite broadband network recently unveiled by Telesat, one of the world’s largest satellite operators. Telesat Lightspeed will deliver affordable, high-speed internet to every part of Canada and the world, to achieve universal connectivity for all.

MDA’s Brampton facility is a thriving hub of innovation

With the Canadarm3 development being led out of MDA’s headquarters in Brampton, there are plenty of opportunities for engineers in the GTA and surrounding areas to join these innovative teams.

MDA’s robotics team boasts 24,000 hours of direct robotic operations experience and over three million hours of engineering support to on-orbit robotic operations — including over 100 free flyer vehicle and satellite captures and over 1,000 grasping operations — all with a 100 percent mission success rate, the most of any company in the world.

With a track record of making space ambitions come true, MDA enables highly-skilled people to continually push boundaries, tackle big challenges, and imagine solutions that inspire and endure to change the world for the better, on the ground and in the stars.
